Downtown New Orleans

In addition to tall buildings, downtown had several tourist attractions, a huge convention
center, and a humongous casino, which I did not choose to visit or photograph.
They are trying to rebuild their economy by attracting convention visitors.
Downtown is next to the Mississippi River.

Riverwalk

Riverwalk is a long skinny shopping center built high above the riverfront.  It was recently
refurbished and reopened.  The levels are built like stair steps, not above each other.

Here is the entrance at one end.

A strolling jazz band entertained people
in the food court and throughout the mall.

I thought it was funny that this bird was perched on a sign telling about birds on the balcony of Riverwalk.
Behind the bird is a view of the Mississippi River.

Spanish Plaza

The Spanish plaza is a reminder of the Spanish heritage of New Orleans.
The concrete benches surrounding the fountain display the coats-of-arms
of different provinces (and families, I guess) in Spain.

Moonwalk

Unlike Riverwalk, Moonwalk actually is
a place to walk along the river.

There were statues, including this one honoring immigrants.  The person behind the family is a ship figurehead looking out toward the river.

Moonwalk was also a good place to watch boats
or just look at the river's edge.
